Skanky Dirty Scumbag

Right now you're probably questioning some things. First, what does "skanky dirty scumbag" have to do with a sports blog? Second, why can't my wife look like either of these two women? I can't help you with the second one (unless you're loaded, you probably can't afford steroids and breast augmentation for your wife). However, I will offer some insight as to why this blog post is so absurdly titled.
Allow me to enlighten you, if you will.

This morning WEEI's Dennis and Callahan actually decided to discuss sports. If you missed it, I don't blame you. I, of all people, understand they've been discussing far to much politics lately.

Anyway, D & C were interviewing Curt Schilling this morning when they decided to bring up Jose Canseco within the context of his continued steroid allegations. I can't recall the entire response Curt then gave, but I will tell you that somewhere within his rant he called Canseco a "skanky dirty scumbag."

Skanky dirty scumbag? Come on Curt, really?

I don't get it. Mr. Bloody Sock himself, the guy who helped lead the 86-year cursed Red Sox to two World Series titles in four years, has stumped to the level of calling someone (even if it is Canseco) a skanky...dirty...scumbag. Seriously? I thought Curt was classier than that.

Even A-Rod took the high road when Canseco alleged that he put him in touch with steroid distributors, as well as suggesting A-Rod attempted to have (in Borat's words) "sexy time" with Canseco's wife on numerous occasions.

(Side note: Does anyone else find it odd that Canseco continues to protect Roger Clemens? There could only be two logical explanations for this: (1) Canseco was allowed one hour of sexy time with Clemens' wife; or (2) Canseco promised to keep Roger "clear" in his upcoming book if he invested in Canseco's movie project. Just a thought.)

Shifting back to Curt: is anyone actually surprised with his actions? I'm not. Curt's downfall has always been his big mouth. Sure I love and respect everything he's done for the Red Sox organization (as far as wins and charities are concerned), but I sure won't miss senseless comments like this one.

Why does it piss me off so much? The same reason you should be pissed too: because the rest of the country is watching (or in this case, listening). We sports fans get associated with the actions of our marque players, coaches, etc. Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots "cheated," so we're all cheaters (or at least supporters of it). Curt Schilling calls Jose Canseco a skanky dirty scumbag and BOOM "there go those Boston a-holes again talking a mean, disrespectful, classless game."

Canseco was on the radio in Seattle today. OF COURSE they caught wind of Schilling's comments and OF COURSE Canseco responded. When they told Canseco what Curt had said, which included Curt saying Canseco was "acting like a five year-old," Canseco responded by questioning Curt's class and calling him...get this...a "one year-old" and "pathetic"(There is more, but I really have had enough of this story already).

Congratulations Curt! You have officially involved yourself in a conversation you should have never been a part of in the first place, and, even if only for a brief amount of time, you have stooped to the level of one of the skankiest...dirtiest...scumbags in the country. A skanky dirty scumbag, if you will.

The problem is: we all knew Canseco was a scumbag.

There was no need to remind us.
